Sailing from Monck’s Bay since 1891, Christchurch Yacht Club is one of the oldest clubs in the country.

Members past and present provide a roll-call of world-class yachties including New Zealand’s first sailing Olympic Gold Medallists Peter Mander and Jack Cropp in 1956 and Leslie Egnot.

With its distinctive historic clubhouse past Redcliffs on the road to Sumner, CYC has access to the water at all states of the tide and enjoys sailing areas both on the Estuary and over the bar into Sumner Bay. Low tide sailing by the beach at Shag Rock is particularly popular.

CYC has strong fleets of Zephyrs and Lasers supported by a growing fleet of juniors sailing Optimists, Firebugs, P Class and Starlings – all positively encouraged.

New members and families are always welcome, with learn-to-sail and junior coaching programmes available throughout the season.

We Would like to thank our generous sponsors
