ADULT LEARN 2 SAIL

Adult L2S is done on a case by case basis depending on whether you are a complete beginner or have sailed before.

You will need to commit to a senior membership of $220 or if a couple $330.

You will be matched with a qualified coach for individual coaching.

Sessions will be for 2-3 hours and one on one. Coaching rates start from $20 per hour.

The coaching will include on and off the water time. It will cover safety, boat rigging, getting your boat in and out of the water, tacking and gybing, points of sail, rules and meanings.

You will need a minimum of 3-4 sessions if a complete beginner.

Following your L2S sessions, we will mentor/buddy you with a senior sailor at the club to link you into our club sailing days – which occur most Sundays in the season. See CYA handbook www.cya.org.nz. or club website www.cyc.net.nz. Sailing on club race days will give you more confidence on the water and improve your sailing skills.

Coaching will mostly occur on Saturdays as this is also the day we do junior coaching and have rescue boats on the water. Other days by arrangement.
WE PROVIDE

Life jackets and the boats.

The club has 5 fibreglass sunburst boats. These are two handed boats.We also have 2 lasers (single handed dinghies). Your coach will discuss with you which boat will suit your learning situation.
YOU MUST

Be able to swim 50 metres and be confident around water.

Wear a wetsuit. We recommend poly props underneath wetsuits in colder weather.

Wear a woollen beanie and a thin nylon over jacket in colder weather.

Wear sailing booties and sailing gloves.

You must let us know if you have any health issues our coaches should know about.

Help with the rigging, wash down and correct re storage of the club boats after use.
HIRE OF CLUB BOATS TO CLUB MEMBERS

Sunbursts and club lasers can be hired (subject to availability) for $20 per 3 hours. They would only be available on Saturday’s and Sunday’s when the club coaching and regattas are scheduled as we have rescue boats on the water at these times.
